Dear Administrative Teacher and classmates.
According to the MoMA Brochure (Documents for 1st live chat, April 10th, 2018). I have already read it,
but still have some questions. And I am wondering if someone could discuss and explain it to me.
...
Page 1
1.1) What is "PS1"?
1.2) "Visit for free within 14 days of your MoMA admission purchase." What does "admission purchase" mean?
For me, I think it may be "การซื้อบัตรในราคาสำหรับเข้าชม" something like this.
1.3) The map is difficult to understand. What do E, M, and Court Sq. stand for? For Court Sq., I think it might be
"Court Square Park" in NYC. But I have no idea about E and M at the end of the black line.
1.4) What do you think this Brochure is going to tell us? I think it is an advertisement.
...
Page 2 : I have not got any question in this page. But if you have, you could also discuss it this topic together, please do.
...
These are my thought. How about you, what do you think?
If you could explain these questions to me. Please feel free to reply this topic. Even one answer means to me.
Thank you.

Re: MoMA Brochure
Dear Khun Preedaporn
First of all, I have to tell you that I’m just a graduate of our English Programme na krub. However, I’ve been visiting different Forum Boards from time to time, and whenever possible I would usually respond to some queries to the juniors like you.
After seeing your message on this 14213 Forum Board, I’ve decided to give you my response even though I have no idea how the “MoMA Brochure” (for your 1st live chat) would look like and what the content would be like. Why? There are three main reasons:
1. I have been trying to encourage my course mates, as well as my juniors, to try writing in English on Forum Boards as I personally believe that Forum Boards are also for us all to practice our English writing. If anyone is not so confident with his/her English writing, just put what he/she wants to say in Thai along with the English message. The most important thing is to keep practising;
2. Despite the popularity of Facebook and Line, I still believe that the Forum Boards are still the effective tools for the study in our English Programme. More course mates would benefit from the messages posted on the Forum Boards; and
3. I also know that our Ajarns would usually be very busy with a lot of things so that they might not be able to respond to your queries as soon as you would like to get it. So, if I can do something to help our Ajarns, I wouldn’t hesitate.
From your queries, I would like to share my opinions with you, after consulting with Ah Goo+ (Google), as follows:
1.1) What is "PS1"?
At first, I was thinking about Sony’s Play Station 1; but it shouldn’t have anything related in this case. I believe “PS1” is the “public school no. 1”. Since Wikipedia says: “In 1976, Heiss opened the P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center in a deserted Romanesque Revival public school building, exponentially increased the organization's exhibition and studio capacity. This building, dating from 1892, served as the first school in Long Island City until 1963, when the First Ward school it housed was closed due to low attendance and the building was turned into a warehouse.”
The “PS1” should then emphasise the importance of the building which was once used for the first public school in Long Island.

1.2) "Visit for free within 14 days of your MoMA admission purchase." What does "admission purchase" mean?
For me, I think it may be "การซื้อบัตรในราคาสำหรับเข้าชม" something like this.
The term “admission purchase” is simply the “ticket purchase”. I think...!?!?!?
1.3) The map is difficult to understand. What do E, M, and Court Sq. stand for? For Court Sq., I think it might be "Court Square Park" in NYC. But I have no idea about E and M at the end of the black line.
If you look at The Official Guide of NYC (New York City), you would then realise that E and M would be the train services which would lead you to the MoMA PS1.
“How to Get There
E, M train to Court Square-23rd Street; G to Court Square or 21st Street-Jackson Avenue; 7 to Court Square
Address (of the MoMA PS1)
22-25 Jackson Ave. (between 46th Ave. and 46th Rd.), Long Island City, Queens”
And E and M are the different routes of New York City’s subway service.

The E route operates at all times between Jamaica Center–Parsons/Archer in Jamaica, Queens, and Chambers Street–World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan while the M Line Route operates between Forest Hills-71 Avenue / Queens Boulevard to Manhattan and back to Middle Village - Metropolitan Avenue.

Re: MoMA Brochure
Dear Khun Ekkawit
Thank you very much, P'Ekkawit.
Your answer is very helpful. I am glad to know that we still have kindly-and-lovely seniors with us.
By the way, you are so talented. Best answer without seeing the original files of the brochure.
Thank you very much,

Re: MoMA Brochure
Dear Khun Preedaporn
Thanks for your nice words krub. You, as well as other super juniors, are very welcome. What I can do to “pay back” to our English major and to all Ajarns is to give what I had received from my study at STOU’s English Programme to my juniors. As simple as that..!
In fact, if there’re some other things I can do for my juniors I wouldn’t hesitate either.
STOU may be the only genuine “open university” in our beloved country, so your fellow members of the batch would simply come from all walks of life. If there’s anything you can do for your peers, please do.
Judging from your writing, I would say your English skills would somehow be above the average for a Thai. That’s something, but not everything. Keep on learning na krub.
I’ll be hopefully meeting with you one day.
Best wishes always,
Ekkawit

Re: MoMA Brochure
Thank you khun Ekkawit for your research and well-informed answer. Plus the paying-it-forward mindset does help a lot in this community of learning.
I ended up not using the scanned pages of MoMA in my last chat because there were so many questions about the course and the tasks in Module 3 that I ran out of time.
However, this is going to be a starting point for skimming and scanning, the two basics of reading.
Khun Preedaporn, your questions serve the purposes of learning. To understand the brochure, the reader needs some background information. First, the Museum of Modern Art and MoMAPS1 are two different places. The latter is the Institute for Comtemporary Art, the background of which can be retrieved online as presented to us by Khun Ekkawit.
Second, museums usually require admission. That is, visitors need to pay to get inside. A few have free admission.
With background information like the above, readers can expect further what kind of information they'd be able to find on a brochure. They can skim for general understanding of the place or scan for specific details such as opening hours, concession or discount.
I hope this helps

Re: MoMA Brochure
Dear Ajarn Chaisiri, Khun Preedaporn and other super juniors
You're very welcome krub, Ajarn Chaisiri.
I might forget to mention that I had learned how I could truly find a lot of answers for my questions I had in my mind when I studied at STOU, during which I gained a wide range of knowledge (not only on English language). That's one of the reasons I would always try to give something in return to our English major.
Also, that's why I would also like to encourage Khun Preedaporn and some other super juniors who have more knowledge and skills on English language to share with respective peers. On several occasions, I myself had learned more when trying to find the right answers for my course mates' questions; and I really hope Khun Preedaporn and other skilled juniors would experience similar benefits.
Love all of you,
Ekkawit
