Module 1 (task 2) - Guidelines for assessment

Post by Piti5076 » Sun Sep 27, 2020 2:46 am

Hello instructors,

My name is Piti Povichit – ID 6310005076

There are 2 questions I would like to ask in order to get a better understanding on how to assess tasks and receive marks out of the assessment.

My questions are as follows:
1. Could you please explain why the criteria in task 1 and the guidelines for assessing tasks in task 2 are not the same? Shouldn’t they be the same?
It is difficult to assess works with different criteria because each criteria has more than one point to be considered.

2. According to question 1, does my work in task 1 get marks deducted because of it?
I did my work exactly as specified in task 1’s criteria. I would be disappointed to get my marks deducted because of different criteria.

Please kindly advise.

Looking forward to the explanations.

Kind regards,
Piti

Dear Piti,

Can you please clarify which criteria and guidelines that worry you? Your clear explanation might be helpful for other students as well.

Regards,
Kamonlaporn

Dear Aj. Kamonlaporn,

Criteria that might be the problem is "surname and nickname" in guidelines for assessing peer in Task 2.

Criteria in Task 1 don’t have “surname and nickname” that are required by Task 2 guidelines for assessing peer.

My understanding is that the students who didn’t have “surname and nickname” in Task 1 will lose marks according to guidelines for assessing peer in Task 2.

As a assessor, do students need to deduct marks on the works that didn’t have “surname and nickname” ?
If so, how many marks are we talking about here?

I’m sorry if my clarification is not clear enough.
Kindly advise on the matter and reply as soon as possible because Task 2 will be due soon.

Thank you and regards,
Piti.

Dear Piti5076,

Please kindly leave your first name and student ID next time you post on the webboard. And thank you for your questions. They really contribute to the class and some might be your friends' questions as well.

Now, let's look into the requirements of Module 1 Task 1
"Introduce yourself to your peers by giving the following information:
1. your name, age and gender
2. your profession/occupation and the name of your workplace
3. the province and district where you live
4. your hobbies or pastimes
5. some information about yourself such as your appearance, your personality"

If your submission includes all these requirements, you are totally fine.
Now, let's look at the criteria your peers are required to assess your Module 1 Task 2 assignment.

"Your peer's self-introduction must include the following aspects:
· his/hername, surname and nickname
· his/her age
· the province and district where he/she lives
· his/her profession/occupation and the name of your workplace
· his/her hobbies or pastimes
· some information about him/herself"

As an ideal peer, you should give your peers the highest scores if they meet all the requirements in the bullet points. However, as you observe, nickname, for an example, is not a requirement in Module 1 Task 1. The purpose of Module 1 Task 2 and 3 are giving constructive feedback to your peers. Now it is your turn to tell your peers in a positive way what they could probably add to perfect their assignment. I could not go more in details or else it would become answer keys.

Regards,
Kamonlaporn

Dear Aj. Kamonlaporn,

Piti Povichit – ID 6310005076

It now makes sense why the criteria in Task 1 and guideline in Task 2 are not exactly the same.
Also, it will obviously guide me and everyone in this course how to do Task 3, except students who don't come in and read your reply to my post.

Thank you for your explanation.

With best regards,
Piti.
