จากที่เคยทราบ... คำว่า found เป็นกริยาช่องที่ 2 และ 3 ของ find
หนูเห็นในหนังสือหลังเรียน Module ที่ 4 หน้า 65 ข้อที่ 8
The first college was ______ in AD 1284.
ถ้าใช้ was found กับ was founded ความหมายก็จะต่างกันใช่ไหมคะอาจารย์?

Dear Khun Krittaya
You’re about 66.66 percent correct krub.
I’m really glad that you’re a very good learner (please notice that I didn’t use the word “student”) for having raised this topic for discussion.
I don’t know which dictionary is your favourite one or which one you’ve been using lately; but I would like to recommend you the Cambridge Dictionary as one of your helpers. Why? This is because when you enroll 14320 it would also be recommended to you anyhow; and that will absolutely be good for you (and your STOU friends). So, it would be a good idea for you to get familiar with it from now on.
And from your query about the word “found”, the Cambridge Dictionary gives you the following answers:
Cambridge Dictionary

found
verb
UK /faʊnd/ US /faʊnd/
found verb (FIND)

Boston was founded in 1630 by Puritan colonists from England.
She left a large sum of money in her will to found a wildlife sanctuary.

found verb (BUILD)
[ T usually + adv/prep ] SPECIALIZED engineering
to build a support in the groundfor a large structure such as a building or road
Examples
A lot of the criticism of her is founded on jealousy.
The whole theory was founded on a mistaken belief.
From the above content, you would now see that there are at least THREE meanings of the word “found”. In fact, there are more than that; but three would already be a good start for you at this stage.
Therefore, when we come back to your query: “ถ้าใช้ was found กับ was founded ความหมายก็จะต่างกันใช่ไหมคะอาจารย์?”, you might be able to tell the difference yourself now.
Enjoy the course na krub.
Best wishes always,

Re: คำว่า founded ใน module ที่ 4
Khun Ekkawit's comments are correct. Basically, you're confusing two verbs - find/found/found, and found/founded/founded. While similar, they aren't related. A useful website to check the origins of words (what we call the etymology" is www.etymonline.com. According to them, find "to discover" has a native English root - many irregular verbs are like this. Found "to establish" on the other hand comes from Latin "fundare" or the noun "fundus" meaning bottom or foundation. Note that found is a regular verb - the second and third forms just add -ed.
To remember this, just imagine someone building a base that others can later build upon and expand. If you found a company, it may be small at first, but your descendants (if it stays in the family) can make it bigger and bigger. In America we talk about the "founding fathers", who are the people who wrote the Constitution and thus created the American state. Later generations of politicians and lawmakers have built on their work by passing many new laws and amendments, but we still try to keep the intentions of the founders in mind and not change too much when we do this.
Hope that helps!
