Welcome to 14213 English Reading 1!
I'm Chirasiri, and I'm the course convener (or 'convenor' in British English).

I hope you enjoy the course in this semester.
Together we will build a community of learning.

So, let's begin by exchanging ideas about reading. What do you usually read, either in Thai or in English or both? Is reading your favorite pastime?

Dear Professor,

Thank you for welcome note kab.

I like reading as it benefits me to apply knowledge and information in my daily life. From Monday to Friday, normally I read email correspondence.

In my spare times, I visit website https://www.prachachat.net/home to read what’s going on in business. In this website, I also follow weekly horoscope for all 12 zodiac signs.
Another website I can learn for useful phrases or words using to express ideas and comment is https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/si ... s-10066808

For the paper form, last year I read Personnel Management Association of Thailand’s People Magazine. Sometimes I read Dhamma books. But this year, I envisage myself to read the impending release of company’s new policies and guidelines, and of course never-to-be-forgotten STOU’s textbooks.

I really like useful and clear the evaluation criteria 

Hi
I don't usually read no books, doesn't mean I hate reading.
I just read bits and pieces about the things that interest me from (what seem to me like) reliable online source, mostly sports and movies.

Anyways, really happy to be on the course.
N Jiwa

Good to see more threads coming in! Thank you for sharing your reading, PawatB and N Jiwa.

Newspapers and online news are a great start. Readers gain general knowledge and can follow the current affairs while gaining a wide range of topic vocabulary (คำศัพท์ที่เกี่ยวข้องกับหัวเรื่องใดเรื่องหนึ่ง). News is presented with headlines, leads (ประโยคหรือส่วนนำ ภาษาข่าวเรียกว่า โปรย) which content all the key ideas, and the following paragraphs give more details of the lead.

It's okay to read bits and pieces of information if you don't like reading. Now it might be a good idea to ask yourself further why reading is not your cup of tea (see the meaning of 'someone's cup of tea' here https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictio ... cup-of-tea).

Thank you for introducing yourself to the 14213 web board audience.
Would you tell us more about your reading? What do you usually read? How often do you read?

I hardly read any Thai books. I read all sorts of English books so long as they are not classic literature. At one time, I tried to read Oliver Twist and Pride and Prejudice, and I was bored to tears that I gave up...LOL. I read mostly non-fictions, especially how-tos on thinking positive, mind and memory training, and esoteric arts such as yoga, Zen Macrobiotics, Zen and Daoist meditation and traditional Chinese medicine.
I prefer reading ebooks and foreign websites to reading paper books. I hate paper dictionaries. I only use online dictionaries. I devise google search algorithms that return wealth of knowledge and information on learning English. Doing so, my English reading and writing skills have taken a quantum leap.

How nice! Marvelous! I'm sure there're plenty of non-fiction fans in our 14213.
let's hope team members talk about this and a recommended list could be built in the end.
Could I ask further, khun Tansy, which book(s) you'd like to recommend for a reluctant reader who may want to tap into the world of non-fiction?
